ART LILIANA
ALOHA - Liliana R. Morell.
Born and raised in the mountainous part of Switzerland, being creative was part of my being throughout my whole life. For almost 40 years, I have been doing visual art. I work as a full-time artist in my studio, for some years I owned a gallery in Zurich/Switzerland, and I have been invited to show for several single and group exhibitions. I am creating artwork on the Island of Maui, Hawai'i and in Weggis/LU, Switzerland.
Doing art for me is meditation. With a connection to the “here and now,” my work comes into being very intuitive. The ideas and forms come through me. Nature, spirituality. and reflecting on our human being is my main inspiration for my creativity. I have traveled worldwide and that has inspired me a lot, the diversity of the USA, the nature of Canada, the strong volcanic energy on Lanzarote, the pulsating Africa, the blaze of colors and spirituality in India, and most of all the home of my soul Hawai'i, everything flows into my work. I love organic shapes, which are not perfect, but which nourish harmony and balance in us.
Creativity is my life! - “ I express my inside….moment by moment in color, texture, shapes and sound”.
When my work can touch the core of people’s hearts, it is a beautiful way to communicate with someone and share my inner experiences.
SOUND HEALING
Music and sounds are part of my life. I am offering very special Sound healing sessions and sound meditations with my mother drum, various singing bowls, gongs, Hawaiian Pu’u (shell), handpan, and various percussion instruments from around the world.
Besides working as a full-time artist, I support people becoming more themselves, their “very own self-expression”. My approach for this transformational work is the field of creativity, sound and awareness. See more: lilianamorell.com
INSPIRATION HAWAI’I
Starting in 2015, I lived and studied full-time in Maui/Hawai'i for several years. Hawai’i is a great source of inspiration for my life and my art. The years I have lived on the island and my 4 years of studies at the University Hawai’i on Maui have had a lasting impact on me. The islands in the Pacific with the amazing nature, the culture, the spirituality, the ancient traditions, the people, their way of life, and the Aloha Spirit have become a part of my life.
I was able to experience the Hawaiian way of life and the culture very close. I gained a profound knowledge of Hawaiian culture which inspired my art in a completely new way. I was able to learn a lot from my Hawaiian family (Ohana) and Hawaiian teachers. I was involved in various cultural activities. Again and again, I was deeply touched in my heart by the love, the way of life, and their understanding that we are all connected to each other, to mother nature and all beings. This deep knowledge is also expressed by the locals through creativity in various forms.
My art has changed a lot during this time. For my ceramics, I have created my very own technique which is sometimes a bit unusual for clay. Hawaiian natural materials became part of my paintings. I was introduced to the old tradition of Kapa making, which is part of my paintings today. This is labor-intensive processing of tree bark to obtain a very thin material that the Hawaiians used to make their clothes. Today this tradition is continued, and the material is used for hula dance costumes. I learned this technique from the currently best-known teacher (Kumu Lisa Schattenburg). For my artistic purposes, I expand the work process and include the bark into my abstract pictures, in addition to other natural materials that I find on the islands. During my time on Maui, my artwork was selected and shown at several juried exhibitions.
I still have very close ties to Hawai'i and live on the island for several months a year. Mahalo Nui!
